The Vizsla is an athletic, medium-sized breed of dog seen in a smooth, sleek golden rust colored coat.
A lean body with well-defined muscles and a long, tapering muzzle gives the Vizsla a classic chiseled and refined appearance.
Vizslas are mild–mannered and affectionate, with a personality well-suited for family life.
Sometimes called the, “Velcro” dog, this breed quickly develops a close, loyal bond with its owners.
Active, energetic, and intelligent, Vizslas are apt to take on any physical or mental challenge, and need to be exposed to regular exercise and stimulation.
They are naturally keen hunters and retrievers both on land and in the water, recognized as one of the seven breeds demonstrating skills in hunting, pointing, and retrieving.
First recognized by the AKC in 1960, the Hungarian origins of the Vizsla can be traced back to as early as the 9th century, when the breed was used by Magyar tribes living in the Carpathian Basin for hunting.
Growing to reach 20-26” in height at 40-60lbs. in weight, the average Vizsla lives to reach 12-15 years of age.
